COMMON QUESTIONS
A Few Things You May Be Wondering
WE’VE GOT ANSWERS
Choosing windows and doors can bring up a lot of questions—from materials and energy performance to installation, timelines and warranties. We believe the more you understand, the more confident you’ll feel about your investment.
Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often. And if you don’t see yours, just ask. We’re always happy to talk through the details.
Choosing Your Windows & Doors
-
We offer an extensive selection of premium windows and doors, including casement, awning, sliding, fixed and specialty windows, as well as folding, multi-slide, lift-and-slide, swing and patio door systems. With materials ranging from steel and aluminum to fiberglass, aluminum-clad wood, all wood and vinyl, we can help find the right combination of design, performance and value for your project.
-
Window HQ South represents a carefully selected collection of premium manufacturers, including Fleetwood, Marvin, Milgard, LaCantina, Steel Traditions, Weather Shield, WinDor, All Weather Architectural Aluminum and AG Millworks. Each brings different strengths, allowing us to recommend products based on your project rather than trying to make one manufacturer fit every application.
-
No single material is best for every project. Architecture, opening size, exposure, energy requirements, maintenance, aesthetics, and budget all play a role. Steel and aluminum can provide exceptionally narrow profiles and expansive glass; wood brings natural warmth and craftsmanship; fiberglass combines strength with low maintenance; aluminum-clad wood offers interior warmth with exterior protection; and vinyl provides excellent everyday performance and value. We’ll help you compare the advantages based on your priorities.
-
Absolutely. Depending on the manufacturer and product line, we can customize sizes, configurations, frame materials, colors, finishes, glass, hardware and operating styles. For architectural projects, many of our manufacturers can accommodate exceptionally large openings and highly specialized configurations.
-
Yes. Today’s premium windows and doors offer numerous ways to improve thermal performance, including insulated glass, Low-E coatings, thermally improved frames and glazing packages designed for specific exposures and climates. We’ll help you understand which features provide meaningful benefits for your home rather than simply adding options you may not need.
Planning Your Project
-
Start with a conversation. Tell us what you’re hoping to accomplish, what you like or dislike about your existing windows and doors, and anything you already know about your preferred style, materials or brands. From there, we can help determine the best next step—whether that’s a showroom visit, an in-home consultation or reviewing plans for a new construction project.
-
We highly recommend it. Windows and doors are much easier to understand when you can see, touch and operate them. A showroom visit lets you compare materials, frame profiles, finishes, hardware and operating systems at full scale while one of our specialists helps narrow down the possibilities.
-
Yes. Our in-home consultation allows us to evaluate your existing conditions, understand the architecture and surroundings, discuss installation considerations and take the measurements needed to begin developing your project.
-
Once we understand your project and have gathered the necessary measurements, plans and product selections, we can prepare a proposal outlining the recommended products and scope of work. We’ll review it with you and answer questions before anything moves forward.
Still Have Questions?
Every project is different. Bring us your questions, plans, photos, or ideas, and we'll help you find the answers.
Installation
-
Every project is different. A straightforward replacement project may take only a few days, while large openings, extensive renovations or highly customized installations can require considerably more time. Once we understand your project's scope, we’ll set a realistic schedule and explain what to expect.
-
Professional installation is a fundamental part of what we do. Window HQ utilizes trained installation professionals and emphasizes InstallationMasters® certification and nationally recognized installation practices. Proper installation helps protect the performance, weather resistance, energy efficiency and longevity of the products you’ve selected.
-
Home preservation is part of our installation process. Before work begins, we take appropriate steps to protect work areas, flooring, furnishings and access pathways. During installation, we manage debris and removed materials, and when the work is finished, installation areas are cleaned and the completed products are reviewed for proper operation.
-
When removal is included within the project scope, our installation team carefully removes the existing products as part of preparing the openings for the new windows and doors. We discuss removal and disposal requirements as part of the project so you know what to expect before installation begins.
-
Permit requirements depend on the type and location of the project. When permits or other project coordination are required within our scope of work, we’ll identify those needs and explain how they will be handled before construction begins.
After Installation
-
Warranty coverage varies by manufacturer, product and product line. Some warranties cover specific frame, glass or hardware components differently, and coverage periods can vary. We’ll explain the applicable manufacturer warranty for the products you select so you understand your coverage before making your investment.
-
Maintenance depends largely on the material and operating system you choose. Vinyl, fiberglass and aluminum generally require relatively little routine care, while natural wood may require periodic inspection and refinishing. Large sliding and folding systems also benefit from keeping tracks and moving components clean. We’ll explain the recommended care for your particular products.
-
Our relationship doesn’t end when installation is complete. If you have a question about operation, maintenance, warranty coverage or a service concern after your project, contact us. We can help determine the appropriate next step and, when necessary, assist in navigating manufacturer warranty or service procedures.
